Rochester Rides For Life and the Strong Regional Trauma Center invite you to the third annual Rides for Life car show. The Rochester Chapter of the Injury-Free Coalition for Kids is a non-profit organization whose members include people from local government, community activists, and physicians from Golisano Children’s Hospital. Now Offering the Escort Passport 9500i

It is about as big an announcement as they come in the radar detector industry: a new radar detector that incorporates intelligent radar and laser detection with the latest GPS capabilities. It’s called the Passport 9500i, and it’s being touted by Escort Inc., the manufacturer, as being “revolutionary” and “innovative,” two terms that are hard to come by in an industry where true advancements are few and far between.

The most useful, new feature touted by the Passport 9500i is Escort’s proprietary TrueLock system that they claim solves the number on complaint of detector users – false alerts. The device itself is able to detect, using a GPS powered module, exactly where and how fast the unit is traveling at, at all times. When a user encounters a false alert, they can, by the touch of a button, activate the TrueLock feature. The device then stores both the location and the specific frequency of a false alert. Once stored, the device will not display that frequency alert, in that same location, ever again, thus cutting down the unnecessary noise of known, false alerts through commonly traveled areas.

“The TrueLock feature is not only revolutionary in itself,” said Radars for Rent Owner Cassandra Rife, “but it speaks worlds about the future of radar detector technology. Imagine being able to upload your locked out false alarms to a website, where others can download and add them to their own detector. Now you’re talking nationwide cooperation to further a device’s capabilities.”

2008 AKA Rally

Welcome to a world of fast cars and crazy drivers – the 2008 AKA Rally is a cross-country drive that is definitely not for the faint of heart.

The AKA Rally began in 2004, and has been bringing auto enthusiasts together to participate in activity that they all enjoy – driving. This year, the Rally is staged to begin in spectacular New York City, and culminate eight days later in the even more fantastic Las Vegas. Participants will be stopping in several major cities along the way, but due to security reasons, these locations have been kept secret to all except the participants themselves.

The 2008 AKA Rally got off to a rocky start, as founder Chris Conner couldn’t generate enough support to fund the endeavor – enough interest has to be generated in advance, or the special events planned along the way cannot be pre-booked. However, thanks to a generous sponsorship from SpeedTV, that includes a 6-episode series to be broadcast in the fall, the AKA Rally was back on its feet and accepting registrations.

To date, the list of participants includes everything from Porsches to Ferarris, Ducatti’s to DeLoreans, which should make for an interesting rally as they caravan down highways and city streets. Although speed is never the name of the game, AKA Rally organizers are quick to point out that no prizes are given for those who arrive at the checkpoints first, it isn’t uncommon to see local and state Police cruising the area on high alert. “It’s unfortunately not that uncommon for a rallyist to be pulled over by the Police because of another, non-rallyist driver phoning in a complaint,” said former AKA Rally participant David Moffitt “Your average driver sees a group of nice cars, all done up in vinyl and driving together, and assumes they must be up to something illegal.”

With changes comes new responsibility, and Radars for Rent has definitely been going through some big changes recently. We knew that we were outgrowing our old website, but it got to a point where we knew we were doing a disservice to our customers by continuing to try and shoehorn our current offerings into a site that just wasn’t designed for them!

However! Some members of our staff are excellent graphic designers, and they took on the new responsibility of building us a new home. So how do you like it?
