Overview
The Escort Passport 8500×50 was introduced to replace the original Escort Passport 8500 model (which itself was touted as the Worlds Best Radar Detector at the time of it’s debut). The Escort Passport 8500×50’s “Varactor Tuned” radar receiver provides exceptional radar detection range – up to 50% more range than the original 8500 on the all-important K and KA bands. Considered a “low maintenance” model, the Escort Passport 8500×50 features easy to program options and a simple interface, letting you focus more time on driving.
Continuing reading for more a more in-depth look at the Escort Passport 8500×50’s features:
The radar guns used by police operate on several frequencies, much like AM or FM, called X band, K band, KA band and KU band (only used in European countries). The Escort Passport 8500×50 is capable of detecting radar signals across all four of these radar bands.
360-Degree Radar and Laser Detection
The Escort Passport 8500×50 radar antenna is capable of detecting radar signals in a full 360 degree range of your location.
Advanced Digital Signal Processing
All incoming signals are analyzed for priority and only the most important and noteworthy alerts are displayed to you, providing a balance of sensitivity and selectivity.
Auto Sensitivity Mode
The Escort Passport 8500×50’s Auto Sensitivity mode continuously analyzes all incoming signals and intelligently adjusts the sensitivity circuits to provide you with long-range warnings, with minimal false alarms.
POP Mode Radar Detection
When radar detectors started proving that radar guns could be detected from miles away, manufacturers began producing “instant on” radar, also known as “pulse” radar. When used in instant on mode the radar does not emit any signal that is detectable by a radar detector. A police officer waits until his intended target is close, then releases the radar from its stand by mode to detect a speed reading within a second or less. Radar detectors can pick up on this detection, but most often not until it is too late.
In 2003 manufacturers began producing instant on guns that offer “pop” mode. These guns produce a burst of energy at less than 1/15th of a second, that is used to quickly acquire the speed of the vehicle almost instantaneously.
The Escort Passport 8500×50 provides instant notification as soon as POP signals are detected.
3 High-Resolution Meter Modes
Choose between three information display modes: signal strength, ExpertMeter and SpecDisplay. When in signal strength mode, the meter will display the information about a single alert that the Escort Passport 8500×50 has calculated is the most important alert. The ExpertMeter can display information on up to 8 different alerts simultaneously. The SpecDisplay option can display the actual numeric frequency of the radar signal being received.
Multiple High-Performance Laser Sensors
The Escort Passport 8500×50 features multiple laser sensor diodes for continuous laser detection.
Mute & AutoMute
Muting an alert is as easy as the touch of a button. If you have the AutoMute feature enabled (selectable via the user preferences) an alert will first sound at the volume level you have selected, but will then continue to alert you at a lower volume level.
Completely Immune to the VG-2 “Detector-Detector”
Radar detectors emit their own signals that can be detected by other devices specifically looking for these frequencies. The VG-2 Interceptor was the first device developed for this purpose, and has been used by Police Officers to detect vehicles using radar detectors, in areas where the use of radar detectors are illegal. The VG-2 Interceptor, however, has since been eclipsed by the Spectre III.
Brightness Control with Dark Mode
For those trips that find you driving at night, the Escort Passport 8500×50 gives you three different levels of dimming, so that you can properly adjust it to a comfortable, while stile visible, level of brightness. In Dark Mode, the Escort Passport 8500×50 will be completely darkened out, and will give only audio alerts.
Built In Earphone Jack
The Escort Passport 9500i sports a built in earphone jack so that you can receive your audio alerts via a set of standard headphones.
So, how do you like the new digs? We’re pretty excited to have a fresh new look to go along with some big changes here at Radars for Rent, and we’d like to know what you think!
